Toni

As I pulled up to my driveway, I knew I was going to have to hear this man’s mouth. I contemplated on whether I just wanted to go stay at my sister’s house tonight or not. It’s well after midnight, I told him I’d be back by ten, but things went a little left. Being out with my best friend was a part of the original plan, but then Ramel invaded that causing a major detour. He wanted to talk about this lady he is seeing and a problem he is having. Devin still doesn’t know we are in contact though. And I don’t plan on telling him either.

As I walked inside the house, I quietly shut the door and tip toed to the room, but I don’t know why. I know he is still awake, that man never seems to sleep. I opened my room door and saw that the light was off, but the TV is on. I can’t tell if he is awake or not because his head is under the cover as usual. I decide to slip off my clothes and hop in the shower before I get in the bed. I hate going to bed after all day without a bath or shower. Call me a clean freak I guess.

After taking a quick ten minute shower, I hop out and dry off completing my daily nightly routine. You know the face creams, the lotion, the serums all of that good stuff. I have to keep up my appearance, especially since I am thirty. I am not getting any younger. After leaving the bathroom I quietly crept towards the bed and slid in under the covers beside him. As soon as I got comfortable, I heard his voice.

“Nice of you to come home. Where the fuck you been?” he said softly. He never even rolled over to look at me.

“Umm—I was with Kenisha, I told you that.”

“Why you just getting here?”

“We got caught up is all. Girl talk and stuff.”

“Girl talk, huh?”

“Yep.” I replied quickly.

Hoping he would leave it alone, I rolled back over and pretended that I was falling asleep. In reality, I really am tired so that was actually easy to do because before I knew it, I drifted off into a deep sleep. He didn’t say anything else anyway, so I’m glad. I am really not in the mood tonight to fight with him.

The next morning I woke up to an empty bed and a quiet house. It’s only about 9 AM and it’s Sunday morning so for Devin to be up and about already is definitely surprising. He usually doesn’t even go to the studio on Sunday, so I don’t know where he is. I scratched my head as I walked through the house trying to see if he left any traces of anything, but he hasn’t. Sometimes, when he gets up and leaves without telling me he will leave me breakfast and go back out, but there was nothing here today. Now a little bit annoyed I picked up the phone and dialed him.
